Fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province, ISWAP, a faction of Boko Haram, on Monday morning carried out and attack on Auno, a village in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

It was gathered that the terrorists invaded the community shooting heavy artillery which forced residents to flee and some remaining indoors as the shooting continued.

A soldier revealed that Nigerian troops have also engaged the ISWAP fighters in a gun battle, forcing them to flee the community.

“It’s not clear if there are any casualties. I can’t say maybe anyone was abducted as well, it was an attack on commuters plying the highway in the community,” the source told Sahara Reporters.

Troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) supported by the Nigerian Air Force component foiled the attack carried out by the terrorists on Sunday night.

According to a statement on Monday by the Army spokesman, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, the insurgents tried to invade the military base with the use of Gun trucks and several other weapons but were repelled.
