Court Reveals How Evans’ Co-Defendant, Chiemeka Arinze Died

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo has revealed the cause of death of Chiemeka Arinze, a suspected accomplice of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans.

Taiwo disclosed that Arinze died of cardiac arrest and HIV in prison, in respect to the death certificate forwarded to the court.

The Judge stated this after the counsel to the deceased, Ogedi Ogu, disclosed how his client died in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.

Justice Taiwo in her statement noted that the court has the death certificate of Arinze.

The Judge said, “The death certificate here says the cause of death is cardiopulmonary arrest and the secondary cause is HIV; It is from the Ajeromi General Hospital.”

Ogu while addressing the court on Monday said, “He was rushed to a hospital from Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Thursday. I visited him on Friday and he was in a coma on that day.

“I left there around 4 p.m. and at about 9 p.m. they called me and informed me that he had died.

“Doctors informed me that they were going to run some tests about the cause of his death; the results are going to come out on Saturday.”

The Judge described Arinze’s death as unfortunate but added that the trial must continue.

Arinze was standing trial alongside Onwuamadike, Joseph Emeka and Udeme Ubong for the attempted kidnap of Chief Vincent Obianodo, the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors.
