The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has described the fresh attack on Ta’agbe community of the state as “another sad incident.”
The Governor said this in his reaction to the early morning Friday attack in the community located in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area.
As earlier reported by Naija News, at least ten people were killed by unknown gunmen during the attack on the community in the early hours of Friday, November 26, 2021 while many houses were burnt down.
According to the Miango Youth Development Association spokesman, Nuhu Bitrus, several residents also sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack.
Reacting, Governor Lalong in a statement on Friday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Macham Makut called on security agents to get to the root of the matter and bring perpetrators to justice.
The statement also commiserated with those who lost loved ones and property during the renewed attack which he blamed on criminals bent on disrupting the peace of the state.
This is “another sad incident which is clearly the handiwork of criminals that are bent on instilling fear, pain and sorrow among the people with a view to destabilizing the State and making fortune from their criminality as well as rupturing the substantial peace attained,” Lalong submitted.
“The Governor totally condemned the attack and said there is no explanation that can justify it. He, therefore, directs security agencies to take immediate and drastic steps to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure that they pay for their crimes.
“The persistent attacks in this general area remains condemnable and unacceptable to Government,” the statement reads.
“As such, no resources and efforts will be spared in painstakingly following up on the trail of those who derive joy in attacking and killing innocent citizens and destroying their homes and means of livelihoods.
“I expect the security agencies to deploy everything at their disposal to arrest those who carried out the crime no matter how long it takes. Government will not take any excuse for failure to achieve this directive”
The Governor also directed the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Peace Building Agency (PBA) to immediately visit the area and assess the level of damage with a view to carrying out immediate intervention and bringing succour to people who are in need as a result of the barbaric attack.
