Ex-Imo Deputy Governor’s Father Regains Freedom

Unknown kidnappers have freed the father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State, HRH Henry Madumere.

The traditional ruler of Ezi Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the South-East state was said to have been released in the early hours of Wednesday.

It was learned that the monarch was abandoned along Owerri/Onitsha road around the Ogbaku area of the local council before he was picked up by his relatives.

Madumere, however, returned to his palace in the company of his son and was received by his subjects with songs and prayers.

It is, however, unclear if a ransom was paid to release Madumere after the abductors had contacted the family for a price tag.

As of the time of filing this report, the family of the monarch and the state Police Command have yet to make an official statement on the matter.

Naija News recalls that Madumere was kidnapped last week Friday during an invasion of Iho community in the Ikeduru Local government Area of the state.

The traditional ruler was a renowned businessman, contractor and member of the Nigerian Independence Choir.

According to the ex-deputy governor, his father was kidnapped after sporadic shootings in the community, adding that the police have been informed about the abduction.
