24 Kidnapped Victims Rescued In Zamfara – Police Confirms

The Zamfara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that its operatives have rescued twenty-four kidnapped victims in the State.

Naija News learnt that four of the kidnapped victims are secondary school children whisked away while writing their WAEC exams.

Confirming the development to newsmen at the command headquarters in Gusau, the state capital on Tuesday, the State commissioner of police, Ayuba Elkanah, said the victims were successfully rescued following the support of the State Government and Police Tactical Operatives deployed to different locations of the State.

Elkanah revealed that the kidnapped victims were rescued in Shinkafi and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the State.

Affirming that four students of Government Day Secondary School Birnin Yero in Shinkafi writing their WAEC exams were among the kidnap victims, the PPRO noted that one other student of Federal Polytechnic, in Kaura Namoda Local Government area of the State is included in the incident.

He said: “The security agencies are not sleeping over the banditry activities in the State, and we would do everything within our power to curb the situation.”

Meanwhile, a man suspected to be a kidnapper‘s informant has been arrested in Cross River State by residents who are at a rage with happenings in their environment.

The development came following the release of three out of the six kidnapped victims from Lemna Community in Calabar Municipality of the state.

Naija News reports that the victims were released in far away Esuk Mba (a beach market) in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state on Sunday evening.

A local vigilante who spoke on the security challenges in the community told newsmen that kidnappers are on rampage in the locality, urging the state government to help increase security presence to tackle the menace.

While confirming the release of the victims, the local security personnel who reportedly spoke on anonymity, said that three victims were set free by the assailants after an undisclosed payment of ransoms.
