Oluwo Of Iwo Tells Yoruba Leaders What To Do For President Buhari To Release Sunday Igboho

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi has said Yoruba leaders need to prioritize meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to negotiate the release of Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho.

The embattled Sunday Igboho has been locked up in the custody of security operatives in Benin Republic for over 120 days after his arrest in the country while trying to connect a flight to Germany.

His Ibadan residence in Nigeria had previously been attacked by operatives of the Department of State Services but Igboho himself managed to escape.

But Oba Abdulrosheed has now called for concerted efforts from Yoruba stakeholders and leaders to meet the President and negotiate the release of Igboho, submitting that if they approach Buhari, a solution will defintely emerge.

Speaking through a statement on Sunday released through his media aide, Alli Ibraheem, the Monarch argued that Igboho is a son of Yorubaland and must not be left to his fate but has to be rescued.

He said the federal government also has to deploy diplomatic efforts in securing the release of Igboho from Benin Republic and ensure his safe return to Nigeria.

“The controversies surrounding the continuous detention of Sunday Igboho can be addressed if the Yoruba Monarchs, elders and stakeholders ready to take a walk to President Muhammed Buhari.

“Sunday Igboho is our son. I urge stakeholders in Yoruba affairs to harmonize their interests, come together and approach the country’s leaders for the release of the embattled Igboho.

“Granting such a request will entrench the unity of Nigeria and foster a harmonious understanding. Only the federal government has the exclusive charisma to liberate the face of Yoruba nation agitator at this critical time. Our son must be rescued. Releasing Igboho without recourse to legal lingering litigation will earn the government credit. It is a credit of maturity and unity,” the statement reads in part.

His suggestion comes after President Muhammadu Buhari has described the call for the unconditional release of the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, as heavy.

Naija News reports that the Nigerian leader stated that interfering in Kanu’s trial will be unlawful and contravene the powers of the Judiciary.

He made this known on Friday while receiving an Igbo delegation led by former Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, at State House, Abuja who met him with a request for the release of the embattled IPOB leader.
