Misplaced Priority - PDP Slams Fayemi For Shutting Down Schools For Cultural Fiesta

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State has slammed Governor Kayode Fayemi for shutting down schools purposely for a cultural fiesta.

Naija News understands that Primary and Secondary schools in the state have been locked for a week reportedly for the National Festival of Arts and Culture in the state.

Reacting to the week-long event which ended on Saturday, November 20, the opposition party said it see no value in the event which prevent children from going to school.

PDP in a statement issued through its Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, said, “We wonder the benefits of NAFEST in which the only activities that can be seen at the venue is the display of wares, including used clothes and shoes, to Ekiti State such that the future of thousands of our children will be put into jeopardy.”

The opposition party said though it was not against the celebration of the state’s culture and tradition, the closure of schools was unjustified, particularly by Fayemi who had talked about ‘restoring our values in Ekiti’.

The statement added: “In all these, what we have seen is a clear misplaced priority on the side of a party and government that does not care about the future of Ekiti children and by the power of God, just like all the afflictions of the Israelites, this phase too shall pass next year.”

Responding to PDP in another statement, APC Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, described the opposition party’s comment as unreasonable and belated.

According to Dipe, no governor could have loved education more than Fayemi, who declared free education in primary and secondary schools and abrogated the levy allegedly imposed on pupils by the immediate past PDP administration.
