U.S. President Joe Biden is set to host President Muhamamdu Buhari and other African leaders at a US-Africa Leaders Summit in 2022.

A statement released by the White House on Friday said the summit will be the second edition after the first summit was hosted by President Barack Obama in 2014.

The statement stated that the summit will focus on building partnerships and alliances between the United States and the African continent.

It added that the summit will focus on strengthening relations with African partners based on principles of mutual respect and shared interests and values.

However, the White House said a date for the summit has not been fixed and more details about the meeting would be communicated in due course.

The statement reads: “As part of the Biden Administration’s commitment to revitalizing global partnerships and alliances, President Biden will convene leaders from across the African continent for the second U.S. – Africa Leaders Summit next year.

“The summit will focus on strengthening relations with African partners based on principles of mutual respect and shared interests and values.

“It will also serve as an opportunity to listen to and collaborate with African counterparts on key areas the United States and Africa define as critical for the future of the continent and our global community.”
