Troops of the Nigerian Army on Friday overpowered and forced fighters of Boko Haram out of the Southern part of Borno State.

The source that spoke with Daily Trust on the development disclosed that the terrorists attacked Damboa town around 6:35 am and opened fire.

The attack on the community created tension among residents of the affected community, but troops engaged the terrorists forcing them to retreat.

The security source noted that the insurgents on Friday could not stay in the invaded community up to 30 minutes after troops engaged them.

The source said, “I can confirm to you that Boko Haram insurgents made an attempt this morning but it was not successful, the troops on the ground in Damboa town thwarted it immediately.”

This is coming after photos of the slain commander of the 28 Task Force in Chibok, Brig-Gen Dzarma Zirkusu, and three soldiers killed by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were released.

Naija News recalls that Zirkusu and three other soldiers were killed during an ambush in Bulguma, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The military officers were attacked by the terrorist group while they were on their way to Askira Uba town to provide support for the soldiers battling the insurgents.

Confirming the incident, the Nigerian Army disclosed that the four gallant soldiers were killed by ISWAP after they were ambushed in Bulguma.
