Senate Probes Lagos Gas Explosion, Issues Directive To FG

A gas explosion has occurred at Ojekunle Street, Ladipo in Mushin area of Lagos State on Tuesday morning.

Naija News gathered that five people have been confirmed dead and others severely injured in the sad incident that happened at 8:00 am.

As at the time of this report, efforts were being made by the Lagos State Fire Service and the State Emergency Management Agency to rescue victims.

Confirming the incident, the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the explosion occurred at an LPG domestic retailing centre in the area.

He disclosed that five persons were recovered dead while a baby was the only victim rescued at the scene.

“So far, five adults comprising of four, males and one female (mama Funmi) were recovered dead while the only infant rescued died before getting to a hospital.

“The fire has been put out already and recovery of bodies ongoing,” he said.

Also reacting, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said its personnel have been deployed to the place to address the situation.

In a statement by its Director, Margaret Adeseye, the service said on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale, and the gas shop in the area were affected.

Adeseye said the place has been cordoned off to prevent any secondary incident, adding that investigation to establish the cause of the incident is ongoing and further discovery will be made public.
