Unknown Gunmen Kill Six, Injure Others In Katsina

Residents of Gwarjo, in Gwarjo Local Government Area of Katsina State, were over the weekend left in bitterness of heart after some yet to be identified gunmen attacked the community and killed at least six people.

Information reaching made available to Naija News revealed that the gunmen stormed the community on Friday evening and started shooting aimlessly at the helpless residents.

It was reported that telecommunications have been shut down in the community, hence the villages could not call for help when the assailants attacked.

A resident who anonymously spoke with newsmen on the attack identified those killed by the attackers as Abdullahi Ulli, Ali Niga, Bello Yusuf, Dan Ulli, Abdu Bahillace and Samia Ayya.

“The gunmen also injured nine others. They are Mamuda Yahaya, Abubakar Sada, Ibrahim Garba, Buhari Mamman, Lawal Muhammed, Muhammed Sani, Isyaku Yahaya, Gambo Arasi and Muawiya Dogon,” he said.

Daily Post quoted the source as saying that some residents could not be accounted for on Sunday and that those killed were buried on Saturday.

Naija News learnt that the gunmen entered the community at about 9:00 pm on Friday and carried out their operation, shooting sporadically without any confrontation till the early hours of Saturday.

Efforts to get the confirmation of the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah on the incident proved abortive as he did not pick calls put through to him.

In another news, Governor Udom Emmanuel-led government of Akwa Ibom State has sponsored and completed the training of fifty repentant militants in the state.

Naija News understands that the former fighters from Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun Local Government areas of Akwa Ibom State received starter packs upon completion of their training.

They were handed the packages at a programme tagged ‘Strengthening peace security and stability in West Africa’ in Uyo, the state capital.

The programme and packs were reportedly funded by the state government in partnership with the Economic Community of the West African States and the European Union.
