Brig. Gen., Others Reportedly Killed As Military, ISWAP Clash In Borno

Fighters of the Islamic State in West Africa Province, ISWAP, have reportedly shot dead a Brigadier-General of the Nigerian Army after he was ambushed alongside other personnel in Bulguma.

Naija News understands that Bulguma is a few kilometers from Askira town in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The yet-to-be identified General alongside other soldiers were attacked by the terrorist group while they were on their way to Askira Uba town where the military and the ISWAP were exchanging gunfire.

The troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, had mobilised to provide reinforcement in the area following the attack.

ISWAP: Army Confirms Killing Of Brig. General, Three Soldiers In Borno

The Nigerian Army on Saturday disclosed that troops of Joint Task Force, North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ have killed several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during a clash in Askira Uba LGA of Borno State.

Naija News had earlier reports that the terrorists had attacked a military base in Askira/Uba LGA of Borno State after storming the town.

Witnesses disclosed that the terrorists were spotted in a long convoy of gun trucks along Ngude axis towards Askira.

The terrorists were said to have stormed the town with massive arsenal of movable weapons and high calibre equipment.

ISWAP Attack Borno Military Base

Terrorists believed to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, have attacked a military base in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Witnesses disclosed that the terrorists were spotted in a long convoy of gun trucks along Ngude axis towards Askira, on Saturday.

Residents of the affected community noted that they reported the movement of the terrorists to security operatives but no action was taken until they attacked Askira town hours later.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have reportedly killed and injured scores of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

It was gathered that the terrorists, a break out faction of Boko Haram, were killed on Friday by sustained bombardments of the military jets.

According to reports, the ISWAP members where holding a meeting with their new leader, Sani Shuwaram, at Sabon Tumbun and Jibularam, in Marte Local Government Area in Borno State.

Popular Nigerian activist, Deji Adeyanju, says the only way Nnamdi Kanu can be quickly released is the total compliance of the sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Naija News reports that Kanu is facing an amended seven-count charge of terrorism and treasonable felony preferred against him by the Federal Government.

The IPOB leader has made three court appearances since June after security operatives brought him back from Kenya.

The Director-General of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, has kicked against the adoption of the direct primary mode of choosing candidates for political parties in the country.

Lukman made this known in a statement on Saturday while reacting to the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National on Tuesday.

According to the PGF boss, the amended electoral act contains some flaws which should be immediately addressed by the National Assembly before presenting it to the President for assent.

President Buhari Leaves Paris For South Africa

President Muhammadu Buhari will, Saturday, depart Paris for Durban, South Africa, at a special invitation by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Naija News reports that Buhari is set to join other African leaders at the Official Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2021 which takes place on Monday.

This was made known in a statement sent to this online newspaper and signed by Buhari’s Media Adviser, Femi Adesina.

According to the presidency, the event, holding from November 15 to November 21, is being convened by the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM) in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

Ortom Demands Probe Of Benue-born Vanguard Journalist’s Death

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has demanded the immediate probe of the death of a reporter with Vanguard newspaper, Tordue Salem.

Recall that the journalist was found dead in Abuja on Thursday weeks after he disappeared and was declared missing by family members and his organisation.

According to the Nigeria Police Force, Salem was reportedly murdered by a hit-and-run driver who has been arrested and will be charged to court.
