Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says the only thing his client wants is to regain his freedom.

Naija News reports that stakeholders from the South East region have called for a ‘political solution‘ as the only means of addressing the secession agitation.

In an interview with newsmen on Wednesday, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), had stated that the federal government is willing to negotiate with Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Igboho.

The minister, however, disclosed that before negotiation and dialogue can be considered an approach must be made first.

But in a series of tweets on Friday, Ejimakor stated his client will not negotiate with the federal government until he is released from the detention.

He stated that it is only Kanu that has the power to lead any dialogue, saying that no conversation can happen while he is locked up.

Ejimakor pointed out that the former South African President Nelson Mandela was released from prison before apartheid ended.

He said “UPDATE: Today, I had a visitation with #Onyendu in the company of my colleague, Barr Ejiofor & his brother, Prince Emma Kanu. Our discussion centred primarily on the unfortunate episode in Court yesterday & the next course of action. Stay tuned for the details.

“DIALOGUE? Nobody can initiate any dialogue until Onyendu #Kanu is released. This must be the 1st step because it’s only MNK that has the vires to lead any dialogue. The release of Mandela from prison was the 1st step in the dialogue that led to ending apartheid in South Africa. (Sic)”
