Tragedy As 25 School Children Perish In Classroom Fire

Children aged five to six numbering up to 25 have died after their straw-hut classrooms caught fire in southern Niger Republic.

According to reports, the fire broke out on Monday morning, killing twenty-five kids and injuring several others as the kids took part in school lessons.

As of the filing of this report, it is yet unknown what caused the fire.

One eyewitness told the BBC, they saw several bodies being carried from the incident scene and several kids with injuries were placed in vehicles to be taken to the government hospital in town.

Some of those injured were said to be in critical condition.

All classes at the school have been suspended.

Meanwhile, a woman via as Chinaza Egondi recently took to the microblogging platform, Twitter to share photos of an injury a teacher allegedly inflicted on a three-year-old girl in school.

The photo which has sparked outrage on social media depict reddish can marks on the 3-year-old legs.

According to Chinaza, the child’s temperature had risen ever since the incident and the mother of the child is yet to get any response after reporting the incident to the headmistress.

Sharing the photos, Chinaza wrote; ”See what a teacher did to my 3-year-old child. I feel like crying right now. Please, her mum has reported to the headmistress but nothing has been done. What do you advise her to do?”
