Anambra Election: Security Operatives Engage IPOB In Gun Duel In Ihiala

There was chaos at Mbosi Osumoghu junction Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State during the conduct of the supplementary election in the area.

Naija News reports Mbosi Osumoghu is a border town between Anambra and Imo State and one of the strongholds of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

During a routine patrol on Tuesday, joint security operatives engaged in a three-hour gun duel with suspected IPOB members in the area and thereafter blocked the junction.

It was learned that the operatives comprised of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Immigration and other security agencies.

Residents have deserted the area following the clash between the security operatives and the suspected IPOB members.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had scheduled today (Tuesday) for the supplementary election in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State for the conclusion of the governorship election in the state.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Charles Soludo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Valentine Ozigbo, Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress and Ifeanyi Uba of the Young Progressives Party are ready to do battle for the supplementary election today.

Meanwhile, police officers deployed for the Anambra State Governorship election from Lagos State have been involved in a motor accident.

It was gathered that the security operatives attached to the Isolo division of the command, were involved in the accident while returning to Lagos State.

The accident was reported to have happened in Awka, the state capital, leaving some of the officers seriously injured.
