INEC Has Nothing To Hide Regarding 2023 Election - Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that it will begin the final collation of election results from the Anambra governorship polls by 9pm today.

This follows the conclusion of the supplementary election in Ihiala local government area which had earlier forced the suspension of the election result collation.

The supplementary polls kicked off as scheduled on Tuesday and as earlier communicated by INEC, voting is planned to end by 4pm, and sorting and counting are now in progress.

The State Collation Centre, located at the INEC headquarters in Anambra State is expected to be the venue for the final collation of the result.

Naija News had earlier reported that the results of the supplementary governorship polls in the 2021 Anambra governorship election have started trickling in.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the November 6 governorship election in the state inconclusive.

The Returning Officer for the Gubernatorial Election, Professor Florence Obi made the announcement at the INEC head office in Awka, Anambra capital.

Obi disclosed that the election was declared inconclusive over alleged irregularities discovered in most communities in Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.

She declared that the election process remains suspended until after a supplementary election is held in all the polling units in the area.

The vice-chancellor of the University of Calabar, however, announced that the supplementary election has been scheduled to hold today, November 9, 2021.

Before the suspension, APGA’s candidate, Prof Charles Soludo, had won 18 out of 20 local government declared so far in Anambra State, with a total of 103,946 votes.

Followed by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Valentine Ozigbo with 51,322 votes and the Young Progressives Party candidate, Ifeanyi Uba, with 42,942 votes coming a distant third.

Meanwhile, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the ongoing Anambra governorship election, Akachukwu Nwankpo, has revealed why he cast his vote for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Charles Soludo.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote on Tuesday, the ADC governorship candidate said he voted for Soludo due to his track records both in public and private sector.

Nwankpo pointed out that Soludo remains the best person to govern the state out of the three front runners in the supplementary election.
