Impeached Imo Speaker, Two Others Suspended

The newly-elected Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Kennedy Ibeh, has suspended the impeached speaker, Paul Emeziem and two other lawmakers.

Earlier today, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Paul Emeziem was impeached by 19 out of 27 members of the Assembly on charges including disorderly conduct, abuse of office and tyranny.

He was replaced by Hon Kennedy Ibe who represents Obowo State Constituency, while Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu resumed his initial position as the Deputy Speaker.

But according to The Nation, the new speaker has suspended Emeziem and two members of the House namely Hon. Okey Onyekanma and Hon. Ekene Nnodimele.

The three lawmakers were suspended for allegedly forging signatures of lawmakers in an earlier impeachment of the Deputy Speaker last week Tuesday.

Naija News had reported that members of the Assembly had impeached Iwuanyanwu during the plenary on November 2, 2021.

It was gathered that Iwuanyanwu was impeached under tight security after a resolution for his removal was signed by 18 out of the 27 lawmakers.

Shortly after the resolution was submitted by the member representing Orlu state constituency, Hon. Ekene Nnodimele, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Paul Emezim okayed the removal of his deputy.
