Court Strikes Out Six Remaining Charges Against IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

The Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has condemned calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Naija News reports that Igbo traditional rulers, governorship candidates for the upcoming Anambra election, political stakeholders and other groups have called for the unconditional release of the pro-Biafra activist.

In a statement on Wednesday through its spokesperson, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, NEF stated that Nnamdi Kanu must be prosecuted according to dictates of the Nigerian law.

The group also called on Southeasterners to resist plot by the proscribed IPOB to frustrate the Anambra governorship election holding this weekend.

According to the Northern Elders, IPOB’s damage to the southeast economy has now been registered as a major disaster.

The statement reads partly: “Activities of the outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) represent an unacceptable threat to security and rights of fellow Nigerians in the States of the South East region, and the country as a whole.

“Its damage to the economy of the South East is already registered as a major disaster. IPOB’s plans to frustrate the Governorship election in Anambra State this weekend must be resisted.

“The on-going trial of its leader should proceed in accordance with the laws of the land, and elites from the region who demand that he is accorded special treatment in return for peace should know that they are merely inviting more threats on the people they should help to protect.”
