Ikoyi Building Collapse: Buhari Commiserate With Victims’ Families

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of some people in the building collapse at Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Buhari commiserated with the families of those who have lost their love ones, while some are still trapped in 21-storey building collapse in Lagos.

The President reacted in a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Buhari in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari condoles with families of victims of building collapse, urges authorities to step up rescue efforts’, charges authorities to step up effort in rescue operations.

He urged emergency institutions, including hospitals to provide all the necessary support to safeguard lives of the rescued.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari commiserates with families who have lost loved ones in the 21 storey building collapse in Lagos, while some are still trapped.

“President Buhari shares the sad moment with people and Government of Lagos State, urging authorities to step up efforts in rescue operations, while emergency institutions, including hospitals, should provide all the necessary support to safeguard lives of the rescued.

“The President prays for God’s intervention in the ongoing rescue operations.”

Meanwhile, the owner of the collapsed building, has been arrested and the Lagos State Government promised to prosecute him.

The state government noted that he was given the approval to construct only 15 floors, but decided to construct 21 floors.
