La Liga: Barcelona Gets Interim Manager After Koeman Exit
Spanish professional football club, FC Barcelona has appointed Sergi Barjuan its new interim manager.
Naija News reports that Barjuan’s appointment is coming less than 24 hours after the Catalans announced the sacking of Ronald Koeman as the club’s head coach.
The La Liga side was on Sunday, October 24 beaten to 2-1 at Camp Nou by their title rivals, Real Madrid. Subsequently, on Wednesday, October 27, the Catalans again suffered another defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
A few minutes after the Wednesday La Liga match loss, Barcelone relieved Koeman of his duty at the club.
Naija News understands that Barcelona’s new interim manager will fill Koeman’s vacant position until the club hires a full-time manager to replace him.
This news platform understands that Barjuan was before his new appointment the coach of Barca B.
A statement announcing Barjuan’s arrival at the club today read: “Barcelona hereby announces that Sergi Barjuan, the current coach of Barça B, shall be taking provisional charge of the technical management of the senior squad.”
“His interim position as a first-team head coach shall end as soon as the club has hired a full-time head coach to replace the dismissed Ronald Koeman.
“FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, shall be officially introducing Sergi Barjuan to the first team squad this afternoon before the training session at the Ciutat Esportiva.
“Sergi Barjuan will be attending to the media tomorrow Thursday from 1.00 pm CEST in the press room at the Ciutat Esportiva to discuss the game against Alavés, with president Joan Laporta also appearing,” the statement made available on the club’s official website added.
