"Yes, There Is A Strong Possibility" - Saraki Opens Up On Joining 2023 Presidential Race

Former President of the Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has revealed that some big wigs in the ruling All Progressive Congress are preparing to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

The former Governor of Kwara State disclosed this on Tuesday while appearing on Arise News programme, Naija News reports.

According to the PDP chieftain, the notable persons in the ruling party will shift ground towards the 2023 general elections and declare their allegiance to the umbrella camp.

Saraki noted that bigwigs do not defect at an early stage as anticipated by people.

He said: “We are expecting defections from the ruling party. If you follow politics, you will understand that some of the big players don’t defect early; they defect very late in the game, so just keep watching.”

Recently, the All Progressive Congress (APC) lost no fewer than five thousand members to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River, Naija News recalls.

The new defectors were given a welcoming party on Sunday, October 23, 2021, at the Government Technical College playground in Ogoja.

PDP received the huge followership to double its grand reception for Jarigbe Agom, the Senator representing Cross River North. Speaking at the event, PDP Chairman, Venatius Ikem, said the return of the former members and entry of new ones will boost the party’s chances ahead of future elections.

The returnees and the new members were from Ogoja Yala, Obanliku, Obudu and Bekwara, Naija News understands.

Meanwhile, the opposition party had also witnessed the defection of some chieftains to the ruling APC.

State governors like Ben Ayade of Cross River, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, have defected to the ruling party, Naija News reports.
