Obi, in a statement signed by his media aide, Barr Valentine Obienyem, said he only heard about the invitation on different media platforms.

The former Anambra governor also denied asking the EFCC to make their investigations public.

The release said: “Obi is yet to receive the letter from the EFCC, which he read on social media like others.

“From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him.”

“Obi being a law-abiding Nigerian will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times.”

Reports had emerged that Peter Obi was summoned by the EFCC following his indictment in an offshore scandal exposed through the global Pandora Papers investigation.

According to Premium Times, Obi was invited in a letter addressed to him last week and he has been asked to report at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on October 27 for an investigation.

A source at the anti-graft agency said the Pandora Papers revelations only served as a lead for investigators and that “a number of issues” are now being investigated regarding Obi and his offshore dealings.

He added that “all persons reported with links to the Pandora Papers” will also be invited by the EFCC and will be investigated.
