The Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to reports that it has begun a probe of several Nigerians indicted in tax evasion and offshore scandal by the Pandora Papers.

Naija News reports that the Pandora Papers is an investigation that revealed 11.9 million documents detailing the secret offshore accounts of 35 world leaders, including current and former presidents, prime ministers, and heads of state.

The investigation also uncovered the financial secrets of some Nigerians such as former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, former Aviation Minister, Senator Stella Oduah, and Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State.

Others are Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, the acting Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority, Mohammed Bello-Koko, the family of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), popular Nigerian pastor David Oyedepo, among others.

Following the expose by the Pandora Papers, the EFCC has invited Obi to answer some questions about his secret assets and financial deals, and will also invite others exposed in the investigations.

The anti-graft agency was reported to have asked the former Anambra governor to make himself available at its headquarters in Abuja on October 27th to face questioning.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Sunday, EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said he had not been briefed on the investigations.

He, however, could not confirm if the EFCC will be investigating Obi and other notable Nigerians exposed by the Pandora Papers.
