1. “If Anyone Thinks They Can Try The Armed Forces, Let Him Try” – DHQ Reacts To Report Of Terrorists Surrounding Abuja

The Defence Headquarters has rubbished claims that some terrorists were setting up camps around the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Niger State.

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor who spoke about the report on Thursday, said there is no truth in it as if anything of such was going on, the Nigerian Military would have picked it up.

Irabor stated this while speaking at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja during the ministerial press briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team.

He submitted that the rumours are just the handiworks of some mischief-makers.

Naija News recalls the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere had warned that the set up of Boko Haram terrorists and bandits’ camps in the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State is a strong indication of looming danger in the country.

But General Irabor in his reaction on Thursday, rubbished the Afenifere report. He said the alarm is false and should be disregarded by members of the public.

2. Nigeria Belongs To Us All, Not To The North – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the country belongs to all the citizens irrespective of their language and tribe.

He stated this on Thursday at the 2021 Annual Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Lecture held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

Mohammed stated that the Muhammadu Buhari administration has formulated deliberate policies and programmes to show Nigerians that every region of the country matter.

He added that President Muhammadu Buhari has created some lasting structures and institutions that will drive inclusive social protection beyond the tenure of his administration.

3. Iyorchia Ayu Emerges PDP Consensus National Chairman Candidate

Former Senate President, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has emerged the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Naija News reports that this is coming ahead of the main opposition party’s October 31 national elective convention holding at the Eagles square, Abuja.

The former Senate President emerged the consensus candidate after hours of continuous meetings by PDP stakeholders of Northern extraction in Abuja.

Naija News had earlier reported that three candidates emerged from those contesting to become the next National Chairman of the PDP.

A candidate emerged each from the North Central, North West, and North-East geo-political zones.

A former Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Shema defeated other aspirants to emerge from the North West, Senator Suleiman Nazif from Bauchi State, who is the current PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), emerged as the sole candidate from the North East and the North Central chose former Senate President, Iyorchia Ayu from Benue State.

4. Military Confirms Killing Of Notorious ISWAP Leader Al-Barnawi

The Nigerian military on Thursday confirmed the killing of the Leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Abu Musab Al-Barnawi.

Naija News reports that the confirmation was made by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor.

General Irabor confirmed the killing while speaking at the ministerial briefing organised by the presidential communications team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“I can authoritatively confirm to you that Abu Musab is dead. As simple as that. He is dead and remains dead,” Irabor said.

Naija News had reported that Al-Barnawi was killed in the last week of August.

5. FG Set To Install Mass Vaccination Sites In Varsities, Churches, Others

The Federal Government has thought it wise to establish mass COVID-19 vaccination sites in higher institutions of learning and religious centres across the country.

The development was made known during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Naija News understands.

This according to Faisal Shuaib, the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, will fast track vaccination exercise in the country.

“We have made plans to create mass vaccination sites and such sites include higher institutions like Universities, Polytechnics, and also religious centres like churches. We will be putting structures in place to achieve this,” Shuaib noted.

6. Anambra: We Will Not Engage IPOB, ESN – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, on Thursday, vowed not to engage the Indigenous People of Biafra and its security outfit, Eastern Security Network ahead of the governorship election in Anambra State.

The spokesman of the electoral body, Festus Okoye, said the commission will not engage IPOB and ESN because it has been proscribed by the Federal Government.

Okoye while speaking on Arise TV said INEC will only engage other stakeholders like security agencies, civil society organizations.

The electoral body has scheduled the gubernatorial election in the state for November 6, 2021.

There have been security issues in the state as political parties take out time to campaign for their candidates.

Some of the attacks in the state have been linked to the outlawed IPOB and its security outfit.

7. Stop Govt Officials From Sending Kids To School Abroad – ASUU Charges N/Assembly

Government officials in President Muhammadu Buhari-led government have been charged by the Academic Staff Union of Universities to withdraw their children from foreign universities and enroll them in Nigeria.

The union charged the National Assembly on Thursday to initiate a law that stops government officials from sending their wards outside the country.

ASUU noted that such a law would allow the public office holders know the decay in the public universities.

The President of the union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated this in a meeting held with the Federal Government.

Speaking before the meeting went into a closed-door, Osodeke said, “We hope that the government will make it mandatory that if you accept a government appointment, your children must attend universities in the country.

8. Anambra Guber: Supreme Court Affirms Soludo As APGA Candidate

Former Governor of the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo, has been affirmed as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming Anambra governorship election.

Naija News reports that the apex court made this known in a ruling on Thursday, which was held by a five-man panel of justices.

The Supreme Court also dismissed the appeal filed by a governorship aspirant of the party, Jude Okeke, on the ground of being an abuse of the court process.

Delivering the lead judgement, Justice Mary Odili affirmed that Soludo will represent APGA in the November 6 governorship election and Victor Oye remains the National Chairman of the party.

The Supreme Court also upheld the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Kano Division, which had earlier dismissed Okeke’s suit and validated the primary election that produced Soludo.

9. Allow #EndSARS Anniversary Protests To Hold – Falana Tells Buhari

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the upcoming #EndSARS memorial protests hold in different parts of the nation.

In a statement on Thursday, Falana berated the Nigeria Police Force for threatening to arrest anyone planning to stage another #EndSARS protest in the country.

According to the human rights lawyer, the police lack the power to ban public protests in the country, asking the force to respect the rights of citizens.

He recalled that President Buhari and other APC leaders took part in public protests against fuel hike in January 2012 and protests against insecurity in November 2014.

Falana, however, asked Buhari to abide by his oath of office by directing the police not to disrupt upcoming #EndSARS protests.

10. 2023: APC, PDP, Others Want To Win Elections By Hook Or Crook – Jega

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP) and other parties are planning the win the 2023 general elections illegally.

Naija News reports that Jega made the claim on Thursday at the parliamentary seminar of the ECOWAS Parliament in Winneba, Ghana.

He called for a reform of the electoral process and system in ECOWAS member states to block electoral fraud and ensure free and fair elections.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) chieftain also asked that attention is given to the integrity of the election management body itself to ensure credible elections.
