FRSC To Start Enforcing Speed Limit Device On Vehicles

The Ondo State branch of the Federal Road Safety Corps has said it will soon begin enforcement of the installation of speed limit devices on some vehicles.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday, the agency said the device installation is necessary so as to checkmate overspeeding by some reckless drivers.

The Ore Unit Commander of FRSC, Sikiru Alonge, stated that the move was aimed at reducing road accidents that occur on the highways due to speeding. He insists that the device will be mounted on articulated vehicles plying the Ore-Benin Expressway.

According to Alonge, the good road on the Ore-Benin Expressway was making motorists speed on that axis, which if not checked might result in road crashes, loss of lives and property.

He said: “For us to check the speeding of motorists on this axis, we will soon begin the enforcement of speed limit devices, especially on articulated vehicles.

“The speed limit devices aside from checking speed, also adds to fuel economy, helps drivers to manoeuvre in the event of accidents and generally aids other safety devices to function optimally in the time of need.”

The FRSC official urged drivers to install the speed limit devices on their vehicles as well as ensure compliance with all traffic rules and regulations on the highway.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sector Command has said no fewer than one hundred and thirty-seven people (139) people died in Abuja road accidents within the last nine months.

The sector commander, Samuel Ochi, confirmed that 10,062 vehicles were involved in the 738 road crashes that happened within the reported months, Naija News reports.
