2023: Ozekhome Slams INECQV Over Vacant Senate Seats

Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, has revealed why popular Nigerian actor, Chiwetalu Agu was released by the Department of State Services.

Ozekhome while speaking on Agu’s release, noted that he was let go after the secret police could not find any incriminating content on his phones.

Recall that the actor was arrested last week Thursday by the Nigeria Army for wearing Biafra regalia in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Agu was arrested by the army while sharing bread to the poor in Upper Iweka Bridge.

The actor, however, was handed over to the DSS for further investigation after he was accused of supporting Biafra.

It was reported that the secret police transferred Agu to Abuja for interrogation.

Ozekhome in a statement he signed titled: ‘Chiwetalu Agu Released By DSS’ noted that the actor has committed no offence to warrant his arrest.

He wrote, “Several interactions were held by the chambers with the DSS operatives, who were, however, very civil and very cooperative.

“Agu was released this (Tuesday) evening to Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, Actors Guild of Nigeria), by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a careful search on his phones showed nothing incriminating.”

Naija News had earlier reported that former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, revealed the man who secured the release of veteran actor,  Agu.

Omokri in a post on a social media platform revealed that Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Mike Ozekhome, was instrumental in the release of the veteran.
