Some unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped Rev Fr Godfrey Mark Chimezie of St Theresa Catholic Church, Umuahia, Abia State.

Reports reaching Naija News confirmed that the cleric was ambushed while going home after concluding a morning mass at St Gabriel, Okpururie, Afaraukwu on Wednesday.

The assailants reportedly forced Fr Chimeze out of his Toyota Corolla ride into their jeep and whisked him to an unknown destination.

The clergyman reportedly hails from Enugu State and was just ordained a priest in 2021.

Catholic Priest Kidnapped

The abduction of the Abia cleric is coming just a few hours after some gunmen suspected to be bandits, attacked St. Albert The Great Institute of Philosophy, a Catholic-run seminary located in the Fayit community in Kagoma Chiefdom in the Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to reports, the bandit terrorists invaded the seminary on Monday night. The terrorists stormed the school at about 8 pm and began shooting sporadically, causing everyone to run to safety, Naija News learnt.

A source that spoke with NewsWire on the incident said the attack lasted for more than an hour before local hunters and vigilantes intervened and “chased the terrorists away.”

The Kaduna Police Command has, however, reacted to the kidnap incident. Speaking to reporters in Kaduna on Tuesday, the state command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige, has now confirmed the abduction.

Jalige disclosed that the command is making concerted efforts to rescue the kidnapped Catholic school students

He added that investigations into the attack were ongoing and details would be made available later.

Also, the school authorities are yet to release a statement in respect to the attack on their facility.
