2022: Buhari Budget ₦1.6bn For New Vehicles

President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has set aside the 1.6 billion Naira in the 2022 budget to purchase vehicles and spares.

The presidency proposed this in the budget presented to a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

The 2022 budget which is N16.39 trillion budget has a deficit of N6.26 trillion.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, while reacting to the budget presentation disclosed that the Buhari government would source for more loans to fund the deficit.

In 2022, the replacement of vehicles and spares will cost N1.6bn unlike in 2021, when N436m was set aside for a similar purpose.

About N180,089,000 is provided for the purchase of tyres for bulletproof vehicles, plain cars, CCU vehicles, platform trucks, jeeps, ambulances and other utility and operational vehicles.

Last year, N116,194,297 was set aside for a similar purpose.

The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume has lamented over the plan of Buhari to finance the budget by borrowing.

Ndume charged the executive to cut down personal and recurrent costs, increase revenues and plug all leakages.
