A suspected member of the Eastern Security Network has been neutralised by operatives of the Imo State Police Command in Ehime Mbano LGA of the state, while another was apprehended.

It was gathered that the suspected member of the security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra was shot dead during a gun battle.

The spokesman of the command, Michael Abattam, while speaking on the development said the suspect had been on the wanted list of the command but on the run after been involved in the killings of police officers and destruction of police properties.

Abattam in his statement said a locally made double barrel pistol with two expended cartridges, two live cartridges and charms were recovered from the deceased.

The spokesman added that the command’s tactical team having received information, stormed the shop of the deceased on October 6, who was identified as Uchenna Chukwu, aged 34 yrs ‘M’ of Umunakanu in Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State.

He said: “On sighting the police operatives, he raised the alarm alerting other members of his gang, picked a cutlass and rushed at one of the police operatives in an attempt to chop off his head but was overpowered, disarmed and the cutlass recovered from him.

“While this was on, the already alerted members came in their number and engaged the police operatives in a gun duel but were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the police and in the process, one of them was neutralized while others escaped with bullet wounds into hiding.”

Abattam added that the apprehended suspect is currently been interrogated and has made useful statement on their hideouts.
