The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has berated the South-East governors for planning to launch Ebube Agu security outfit.

Naija News reports that the chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, had said the security outfit will be inaugurated in the region before the end of 2021.

Speaking to newsmen after the forum’s meeting in Enugu, on Tuesday, Umahi added that Ebube Agu was established as part of plans to checkmate the rising unrest in the region.

But in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, on Thursday, IPOB said the plan to launch Ebube Agu was dead on arrival.

IPOB said the people of the South-East had lost confidence in the governors and leaders of the zone, saying that they cannot decide the fate of the Igbo.

The secessionist group also slammed Umahi for saying that leaders of the zone were comfortable sticking with Nigeria than establishing Biafra.

IPOB dismissed the claims by the governor that Ebube Agu would arise if IPOB did not stop killings in the zone.

The statement read, “We wish to remind South-East governors that their disgraceful plan of creating another group to checkmate IPOB is dead on arrival. The people have lost confidence in them and just as their imaginary Ebube Agu security outfit, no such faceless group can survive in the South-East.

“But we want to remind South-East governors and the Igbo political elite that they represent less than one percent of the Biafran population. The rest of over 99% of the people earnestly ask for Biafra, and the train has long left the station.

“It is unfortunate that the South-East governors are the ones contemplating creating anarchy in the region. Now, we can see the real sponsors of the festering insecurity in the region.

“The world is still in shock of that act where Nigerian police killed Nigerian DSS as unknown gunmen who are terrorising innocent citizens and tagged him as ESN and IPOB.
