The Governor then commended the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade and his officers and soldiers for their sacrifices in ensuring that Imo state is peaceful.

Uzodinma assured the Army and other security agencies that the state will support them to ensure that Imo remains a peaceful state.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has brought back the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

Naija News reports that former Police boss, Mohammed Adamu, had disbanded the unit last year after the #EndSARS protests.

Adamu had said that the SARS unit was scrapped after series of allegations of brutality, extrajudicial killings, and human rights abuses.

But according to SaharaReporters, the IGP has revived the notorious unit and has released new terms and conditions on the operation of SARS officials.

In a statement on Thursday, the police boss said that SARS has been reformed and new rules of engagement have been issued to its officers.

Baba said that no SARS personnel is allowed to interface in any civil matter, adding that they are not allowed to interfere in cybercrime or arrest suspected fraudsters.

The Police boss, however, stated clearly that SARS officers are strictly for armed robbery and kidnapping cases.
