PDP Members Defects To APC

Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has again lost two members of its party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The two defectors, Naija News understands are from the Anambra state house of Assembly.

According to Politics Nigeria, the lawmakers, Douglas Egbuna who represent Onitsha North 1 Constituency and Offor Onyebuchi of Ekwusigo Constituency announced their defections during the plenary on Wednesday, October 6.

Stating his reason for defection, Offor who was the minority leader in the house, said his decision was geared by the desire to have his constituents feel and experience the presence of the ruling party.

On his part, Egbuna explained that he dumped PDP for APC after several consultations. Naija News reports that the defectors were received by the Speaker of the House, Mr Uche Okafor.

While giving them a warm welcome, Okafor congratulated the lawmakers, wishing them well in their new party. With this development, records showed the APC now has six members, leaving PDP with four members, while APGA has 20 members in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has added to its membership figures as a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Abraham Oba, joined the nation’s main opposition party.

Naija News understands that the politician who was a chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), defected to PDP on Tuesday, October 5.

Stating his reasons for dumping APGA in a letter read on the floor of the house by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, during its plenary session yesterday, Oba cited the lack of internal democracy and the factional crisis rocking the Abia chapter of the party for his withdrawal from the party.
