1. Buhari To Present 2022 Budget To N/Assembly On Thursday

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari will present the 2022 budget before a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, made this known on Tuesday while presiding over plenary in absence of Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Earlier, Omo-Agege informed the lawmakers that President Buhari has submitted the revised 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).

In a letter addressed to the Senate, the President urged the lawmakers to approve the planning documents which he said would form the basis and assumptions in the 2022 budget.

He stated that the revision reflected the new fiscal terms in the recently enacted Petroleum Industry Act, and 2022 2022 Appropriation Bill.

The revision, according to President Buhari, will reflect funds for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prepare for the 2023 general elections.

2. We Are Giving Same Treatment To Bandits And Other Criminals – Lai Mohammed Defends FG

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has denied allegations that the federal government is not decisive in its action against armed bandits terrorizing several parts of the country.

He argued that those spreading such insinuations are agents of fake news who don’t want to see anything good in government efforts.

Mohammed who spoke during an interview on Tuesday with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) said it is an act of disservice to the government and the security agents to claim bandits are being handled with kid gloves while separatists and other criminals are getting it hard.

The Minister said the position of the government is that all the criminals are the same regardless of the name by which they are called and must all be treated as criminals which they are.

3. Reps To Buhari: Name Lawmaker Identified As Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho’s Sponsor

The Green Chamber of the National Assembly has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to reveal the lawmaker allegedly sponsoring secessionists in the country.

Naija News reports that President Buhari, in his speech to mark the 61st Independence Day, said his administration has identified a member of the National Assembly as the sponsor of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday “Igboho” Adeyemo.

He had said: “The recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo, and the ongoing investigations being conducted, have revealed certain high-profile financiers behind these individuals.

“We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the National Assembly.”

Rising under matters of privilege at Tuesday’s plenary, the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State, Ben Rollands Igbakpa, said that his privilege has been breached by the President’s address.

Igbakpa noted that he was a proud member of the parliament and shouldn’t be made jest of on the account of the President’s allegation.

He urged the House to prevail on the President to name the sponsors and prosecute them accordingly.

4. Nnamdi Kanu/IPOB: Details Of Southeast Governors Meeting In Enugu

Southeast governors, traditional rulers, and political leaders on Tuesday met to discuss issues concerning the region.

Speaking to newsmen after its meeting in Enugu, the chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi stated that they resolved to condemn the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra over the every Monday sit-at-home order that has crippled the socio-economic activities of the zone.

According to the governors and leaders, such Sit-at-home orders can no longer be sustained as those issuing such orders remain outside the country.

Naija News reports the governors refused to talk about the continued detention of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

5. Forget 2023 Presidency, We Will Take Spiritual Steps Against You And Others – Miyetti Allah To Akeredolu

The spokesperson of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Saleh Alhassan, has stated that herdsmen will not obey any anti-open grazing law.

Naija News reports that most states in the south have enacted laws to prohibit the open grazing of cattle in the region.

Speaking to PUNCH on Tuesday, Alhassan stated that open grazing remains the way of life for Fulani Herdsmen, hence their decision to disobey the law.

H disclosed that the group would drag states that decide to enforce the law.

The Miyetti Allah image maker stated that the group would also take political and spiritual steps in stopping the enforcement.

“First, we take legal action; secondly, we’ll seek a political solution and then spiritual. We will invoke the wrath of God on those opposing the open grazing law,” Alhassan said.

He claimed that the anti-open grazing law was a ploy by southern governors to force their northern counterparts to negotiate for the presidency.

6. IGP Deploys New Commissioner Of Police To Anambra State

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the deployment of a new Commissioner of Police to Anambra State with immediate effect.

The IGP ordered CP Echeng Eworo Echeng to take over from CP Tony Olofu who was in charge of the state until the directive from the Police boss.

The IGP’s directive was made known to Naija News in a statement on Tuesday signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba.

According to Mba, CP Tony Olofu has now been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The new Anambra CP, Echeng until his recent posting, was the Commissioner of Police in charge of Bayelsa State. He holds a First Degree in History from the University of Maiduguri.

7. IPOB: I Am Ready To Stand Surety For Nnamdi Kanu Again – Senator Abaribe

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has stated that he does regret standing surety for the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Naija News recalls that Abaribe and two other individuals had in 2017 stood surety for Nnamdi Kanu before he was granted bail.

The IPOB leader later jumped bail after security operatives attacked him home in Abuja State.

Kanu, who was rearrested in Kenya, is currently facing charges bordering on terrorism, treason, incitement and many others.

Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, Senator Abaribe (PDP-Abia South) called on the federal government to embrace dialogue and address the root causes of agitations, stressing that silencing agitators would not wipe out the ideology.

While insisting that he will always stand with his people, the former deputy governor blamed the media for tagging every activity in the southeast to IPOB.

8. Kano Govt Opens Up On ‘Arrest’ Of Ganduje’s Wife By EFCC

The Kano State Government has denied reports that the wife of the Governor of the state, Hafsat Ganduje, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It was widely reported that Mrs Ganduje was apprehended in Kano on Monday evening by the crack detective team of the anti-graft agency.

She was according to the reports, moved to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday for further interrogation in relation to the allegation levelled against her.

The Kano First lady was allegedly arrested based on a petition by one of her sons, Abdulazeez Ganduje, who had accused her of fraud and diversion of funds.

Ganduje had earlier been invited to report to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja on September 13 but failed to honour the invitation and then the commission threatened to arrest her.

But in a statement on Tuesday, the Kano government has described as fake news, reports of the arrest of the First lady.

The statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said the reports of the arrest were unfounded.

9. Rep Detained As Ghana ‘Places’ Nigerian Lawmakers On Watch-list Over Buhari’s Comment

The member representing Ethiope West/East constituency, Delta State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Igbapka says the Ghanaian government has placed members of the Nigerian National Assembly on the watch-list in response to the statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari in his Independence Day address.

Naija News had reported Buhari as disclosing in his 61st Independence anniversary speech that the arrests of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho have exposed a federal lawmaker as a sponsor of separatist agitation in the country.

Reacting to this disclosure during plenary on Tuesday, Hon Igbapka came under Order 6 Rule 2 and Section 17 (A) of the Legislative Houses (Powers And Privileges Act 2017, to move a motion that his privileges had been breached by the President’s address.

The lawmaker recounted that a few days ago he was in Ghana to attend a wedding ceremony, but to his surprise, he was detained for four hours based on the allegation made by the President.

According to him, he was informed by the Ghanaian authority that they wanted to make sure that Nigerian lawmakers who had already been tagged as sponsors of terrorism did not come into the country to cause problems.

10. DSS Operative Shot And Killed In Imo State

The sudden death of an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been reported in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The DSS official identified as Prince Nwachinaemere Ezemuonye Ozuzu was said to have been murdered while on official duty.

Ozuzu who hails from Umuoyo, Irete in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, married with four children was shot dead on the popular Owerri Onitsha Road.

Though details of how he died are still sketchy, it was gathered that the operative was deployed for an assignment in Anambra State, shortly after the DSS office in Nnewi was razed.

He was however murdered while he was returning to his duty post.

A version of his death story claimed he was killed by a bullet from an accidental discharge by one of the police officers with whom he was working on a joint security team.

His death has however been confirmed by one of his cousins, Deacon Daniel Opara, who added that the family suspects foul play.
