Lagos PDP Chairman Not Suspended - Party Gives Update On Crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has added to its membership figures as a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Abraham Oba, joined the nation’s main opposition party.

Naija News understands that the politician who was a chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), defected to PDP on Tuesday, October 5.

Stating his reasons for dumping APGA in a letter read on the floor of the house by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, during its plenary session yesterday, Oba cited the lack of internal democracy and the factional crisis rocking the Abia chapter of the party for his withdrawal from the party.

According to the lawmaker, the crisis in APGA has dwindled the fortunes of the party in the state. Oba explained further that he dumped the party after thorough consultations with family, associates and entire constituents of Aba Central.

Naija News recall that Oba who is presently representing Aba Central Constituency at the state assembly was elected twice on the platform of APGA between 2015 and 2019.

The lawmaker has now joined PDP with a few months left of his current tenure serving the Aba Central constituency.

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 general elections, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State disclosed on Tuesday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is expecting a harvest of new members across the country.

Speaking in Abakaliki while inaugurating the newly-elected local government chairmen of APC in the state, he charged them to scout for new members for the party.

Naija News reports that Umahi asserted that the APC has now become a household name in Ebonyi State and the Southeast because of his defection to the party from the PDP in 2020.
