Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly caused unrest with gunshots in Owerri, the capital city of Imo State, and Aba in Abia State.

Naija News learnt that the hoodlums stormed the cities on Monday and started shooting sporadically, causing schools and markets to shut down as residents flee for their safety.

It was reported that some pupils were left stranded in schools as their parents and guardians could not find means of going to pick them. Residents claimed that gunshots were heard at the Akwakuma area of Imo State, while some others said they heard the shots at Nekede axis.

Naija News understands that residents of Owerri have just resumed economic activities a fortnight ago after staying away from business on Mondays for six consecutive weeks, owing to the earlier sit-at-home ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The hoodlums, however, halted their means of livelihood on Monday after invading the cities with guns. However, when contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abattam said there were no gunshots in the city.

“People are just creating unnecessary panic. What is chasing them, nobody sees it. It’s just fake news”, he stated.
