Governor Nyesom Wike of River State has mocked the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, over his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that Fani-Kayode had recently dumped the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was warmly received by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Caretaker Chairman of the APC and Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Naija News reports that the controversial politician is expected to be formally welcomed into the APC in Abuja next week.
But in an interview with BBC News Pidgin on Friday, Wike stated that Fani-Kayode has no integrity and ideology, saying that he is not friends with the former minister
The Rivers governor accused Fani-Kayode of defecting to the APC just to find something to eat, adding that the ex-minister is only after enriching himself.
“I don’t know why people are shocked by Fani Kayode’s defection. People make the mistake of taking vocal everybody serious.
“Some people talk just for people to find them something to eat, some people talk because of the problems they have, so that they can be saved — if they will be saved.
“Me and Femi Fani-Kayode are not friends. I don’t like something that is too artificial.
“Stomach politics is not good. Nothing beats integrity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wike has warned former President Goodluck Jonathan that the APC has no good intention for him.
He added that a critical analysis of the situation shows the APC doesn’t like the former President but only want to ruin his hard-earned reputation.
Wike warned Jonathan not to be deceived by the lure of getting the ruling party’s 2023 presidential ticket, observing that it is all a ploy to destroy his name.
He cautioned Jonathan not to fall for the antics of the ruling party, reminding him of the harsh and wicked things they said about him in the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.
“I will tell him not to go anywhere. ‘These people don’t like you. You should know them very well that they don’t like you. What have they not said about you? Has all the things they said about you changed?’
“APC are only intent on bringing in PDP people who have a name, and destroy them so that they will not have anywhere to go again. That’s what APC is doing,” Wike said.
The Governor added that he has nothing but respect for the former President, stating that if Jonathan wants to contest again for presidency, he should do so on the platform of the PDP and not APC.
If he runs on the PDP platform, Wike promised to support his ambition.
