The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has demanded the deployment of 24,000 security agents to Anambra State for the conduct of the state governorship election.

Naija News reports that the Anambra governorship election is scheduled to hold on November 6, 2021.

While noting the no fewer than twenty-six thousand ad-hoc staff would be needed for the conduct of the polls, the electoral body expressed fear over online threats by proponents of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

There have been reports that the Biafra agitators are working towards the cancellation of the Anambra 2021 election.

The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party in the forthcoming Anambra State Election, Ifeanyi Ubah, had recently pleaded with the secessionists to allow the polls to go ahead.

Senator Ubah (YPP-Anambra South) warned that there would be trouble if the Nnamdi Kanu-led group stop the election from holding in the state.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has warned IPOB against declaring sit-at-home during the Anambra governorship election.

Naija News reports that Baba gave the warning days ago in Abuja at a one-day event on Inclusive Elections in Anambra state.

Represented by a Chief Superintendent of Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police boss said nobody or group has the power to declare a sit-at-home in any part of the country.

Speaking on the forthcoming election during a one-day sensitization workshop on political broadcast organized by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nwachukwu Orji, said the commission was battling to overcome escalating security challenges posed by secessionist agitators, gunmen and COVID-19 pandemic.

Orji further stressed the importance of a knowledgeable electorate in terms of civic education and enlightenment, Naija News understands.
