2023: PDP Zones National Chairmanship Position To The North

BREAKING: PDP Files Fresh Suit Against APC Before Federal Court

Ahead of its national convention, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its national chairmanship position to the north.

This development was announced on Thursday in Abuja by the Chairman of the PDP convention zoning committee and Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

He made the announcement at the end of the committee’s meeting.

The declaration follows an earlier report published by Naija News that the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have voted to zone the party’s national chairmanship ticket to the north.

The decision to zone the national chairmanship ticket to the north was said to have been taken on Wednesday in Abuja at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s residence.

Speaking on Thursday, Ugwuanyi, however, declared that the mandate of the zoning committee does not include taking any decision on which zone gets the presidential and vice-presidential tickets of the party.

But he noted that the National Working Committee (NWC) positions currently being held would be swapped between the North and the South.

Meanwhile, the revised timetable/schedule of activities for the nationwide State Congresses of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has been released.

Naija News reports that the congresses to elect party State Executive Committee (SEC) has been fixed for October 16, 2021.

This was made known in a notice on Thursday by the Secretary to the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe.

“Under the provisions of Article 11:A sub-section (i-xiii), and Article 17(i) of our Party’s Constitution, the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of our great Party, has approved the revised timetable/schedule of activities for the conduct of Congresses across States in the Federation to elect Party Officials,” the notice read.

According to the notice on Thursday, the sale of forms will kickstart on Wednesday 15th September and end Monday 11th October 2021.

Screening of aspirants for the State Exco will follow on Wednesday 13th and end on the 14th.
