Outspoken chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Joe Igbokwe has lambasted governors and other leaders of the southeast region, describing them as deaf and dumb.

Igbokwe made the submission on Wednesday in his reaction to the killing of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of late Prof. Dora Akunyili, the former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Naija News recalls unknown gunmen murdered Dr. Chike at Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday evening.

A source disclosed that the late minister’s husband had earlier visited the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA) where the late Dora was honoured.

Igbokwe in his reaction to the development accused the leaders of the region including the governors of turning a blind eye to the worsening security situation.

He, therefore, called on the federal government to immediately declare a state of emergency in the southeast.

“SINCE GOVERNORS AND OUR LEADERS IN THE SOUTH EAST ARE NOW DEAF AND DUMB LET ME SAY IT WITH ALL THE EMPHASIS IN MY COMMAND THAT FG SHOULD DECLARE STATE OF EMERGENCY IN THE SE,” Igbokwe wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Governors from the Northern region of Nigeria have been advised to channel their energy to growing the economy of their region and put aside the debate on the collection of Value Added Tax.

A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Joseph Daudu (SAN), issued the advisory while appearing as a guest on a Channels Television’s political programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday, Naija News reports.

The legal practitioner during the interview rubbished the governors for condemning their counterparts in the South over power shift to their region in 2023.

Lamenting the economic situation in some northern states, Daudu said it is disappointing to know that northern governors have missed the point by thinking that the VAT was a one-off tax.
