Nigerians React As Fayemi, Akpabio, Others Step Down For Tinubu

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has stated the reason he visited the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, in London, the United Kingdom.

Naija News reports that Fayemi alongside his Ondo state colleague, Rotimi Akeredolu, visited Tinubu after recovering from knee surgery in the US.

Speaking on Sunday in an interview programme on Arise TV, Fayemi denied reports that he visited the former Lagos governor to discuss the 2023 general elections.

He stated that the visit has nothing to do with the 2023 presidential election, urging Nigerians to stop politicising his visit to the UK.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum added that he just went to show support and solidarity for the APC leader ahead of his return to Nigeria.

He said, “He (Akeredolu) and I were in London together to see our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but it had absolutely nothing to do with 2023 presidential plans whatsoever. That’s not the reason why we went there.

“Asiwaju had just surgery, it is simply proper etiquette or behaviour both in the part of the country where I come from but also generally that when a friend and elder is undergoing health challenges, it would be improper on your part not to show solidarity and support.

“That is simply what took us there; we wanted to associate ourselves with him at a time of need and as an elder, as a mentor and as a big figure in our political party, nothing wrong in paying him a courtesy visit to check on him to see how he was faring and we did that and we returned.

“It has nothing to do with 2023; let me make that absolutely clear.”

Naija News reports Tinubu has been in London, the United Kingdom since July and is believed to be recuperating after reportedly undergoing surgery.

While in London, his residence has turned to a pilgrimage site of some sort, playing host to many notable individuals and leaders particularly from the APC.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and many APC governors and lawmakers have also paid Tinubu a visit.
