Former Senator Steven Odey has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that an election Appeal Tribunal, in August, had refused his argument that he was duly sponsored by the PDP for the December 5, 2020 by-election in Cross River north.

He was subsequently replaced by Senator Jarigbe A. Jarigbe also of the PDP, after spending barely nine months.

Following his removal by the court, Senator Odey alongside his supporters dumped the PDP.

In a defection ceremony held at his ward- Yache in Yala local government area of Cross River State on Saturday, Odey was received by APC bigwigs in the State, including Deputy Governor Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu, who represented Governor Ben Ayade, APC Acting Chairman Sen. Matthew Mbu Jnr, Commissioners, Local Government Council Chairmen and other top government functionaries.

Speaking at the event, Mbu Junior stated that Odey was the best senator Cross River North has ever produced.

He stated that this is because of the unprecedented impact he made within his short time at the senate.

Mbu Jnr called on the people of Yache, including Cross River State to collapse all structures in support of Gov Ayade led APC in the State.

Also speaking at his defection ceremony, Odey appreciated the leadership of the APC for receiving him with an opened arm.

The former lawmaker thanked his teeming supporters in Yache and beyond for willingly accepting to defect with him to the ruling APC.
