Yobe Electoral Commission Announces Date For Giedam Bye-Election

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC), has revealed its readiness for the conduct of bye-election in two wards of Geidam LGA in the state.

Speaking at a stakeholder’s meeting on Saturday, the chairman of the commission, Dr Mamman Mohammed, revealed that the election will be conducted on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Naija News understands that the bye-election became necessary following the death of the two council members in early June 2021.

The councillors, Hon. Hassan Bukar Mairami representing Ashekri ward and Hon. Yusuf Mustapha representing Hausari ward all in Geidam LGA had died in a ghastly motor accident along Bayamari-Damaturu road.

Announcing the bye-election date, Mohammed said: “On Friday, 4th June, 2021, a sad report for the death of two Honorable Councilors in Hon. Hassan Bukar Mairami representing Ashekri ward and Hon. Yusuf Mustapha representing Hausari ward all in Geidam local government area came to us.

“The death, according to the report was as a result of fatal motor accident along Bayamari – Damaturu road”.

“It is my hope, therefore, that all players most especially the political parties would follow the rules of the game”, the chairman urged.

After releasing the list of activities lined up for the conduct of the bye-election, Mohammed at the end of the stakeholder’s meeting called for a special prayer for the repose of souls of the deceased.
