Former Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi has expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its many challenges and become a better country.

Sanusi, who is the leader of the Tijjaniyya Movement in Nigeria, however, noted that the change and improvement won’t happen automatically.

For the country to become the Nigeria people dream about, he recommended legitimate action, prayers, and patience.

Naija News reports the former Emir spoke on Tuesday in Sokoto State while addressing members of the Tijjaniyya group from the seven North-western states of Nigeria.

He added that though the current situation looks bleak, the citizens can’t afford to give up on Nigeria and must continue to pray for those in positions of authority instead of abusing or cursing them.

He said, “What is expected of us now is patience, fervent prayers and we must stand up to get things better in our own way through legitimate ways.

“We must desist from abusing or cursing our leaders over hardship because the Holy Prophet discouraged that.

“We shall not involve ourselves in corrupt practices and other atrocities because our religion preaches against it.

“We must change for the better and remain committed to peace and development of our societies.”

As the 2023 general elections draw nearer, he encouraged members to get involved in active politics so as to be agents of positive change.

In other news, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has called for the restructuring of the country.

Naija News reports that Jega stated this while speaking on Tuesday at the inaugural caucus meeting of the Rescue Nigeria Project (RNP) in Abuja.

The former INEC boss stated that a reduction in Nigerian states from 36 to 12 would help fast-track development.

He stated that marginalization, inequities and bad governance driven by incompetent, inept, inefficient, and self-serving leaders has led to calls for restructuring.

According to him, restructuring should start from the equitable redistribution of power and resources from the federal government to the other tiers of government.
