Omicron: FG Reviews COVID-19 Protocol For International Travel

The federal government of Nigeria has issued a directive to the police to prosecute passengers with fake COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR) results.

The new directive was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and is effective from September 14, 2021.

The federal government decided to enforce this new directive because some travelers claim to be diplomats or refuse tests before going on trips.

Passengers who also provide information that are untrue on the travel portal and the online health declaration form will be open to prosecution.

Also, those who refuse to obey the instructions of Port-Health staff, evade quarantine, and disobey security agencies will promptly face the law.

Also, non-residents and non-Nigerian passport holders who have gone to South Africa, Turkey and Brazil within 14 days before their travel to Nigeria will not be allowed to enter the country.

However, passengers who are simply on transit through the countries will be exempted.

A fine of $3, 500 will be paid by any airline on each passenger if they default on any of the rules.
