Kidnapped ABSU Student Regains Freedom

A yet to be confirmed number of persons have been reportedly kidnapped in Abia State by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Reports reaching Naija News at this time revealed that the gun-slinging men abducted students of the Abia State University, Uturu, ABSU, and robbed many motorists enroute Owerri from Enugu and from Okigwe town to Abia.

A source from ABSU disclosed that four students of Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu got hit by stray bullets around Ihube road in Okigwe Local Government Area, Imo State while the gunmen were shooting aimlessly.

One of the students reportedly died instantly while three others, who are between the ages of 14 and 16, sustained different degrees of injuries.

The students are currently being treated at an undisclosed hospital, Naija News learnt.

Passengers and motorists were said to have run into the gunmen on their own.

When contacted, the Imo State police spokesman, Michael Abattam, affirmed to the event.

He, however, noted that the incident is a robbery attack not kidnapping as claimed by other sources. He assured that investigations are in top gear to fish out perpetrators.

This is coming a few hours after Naija News reported bandit terrorists have released ten more students of the Bethel Baptist Secondary School abducted in Kaduna State.

Recall that the students were abducted by the terrorists on July 5 in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

The students were released by their abductors after spending about 75 days in the den of their kidnappers, Naija News reports.

An official in the school who spoke with Channels TV, disclosed that the students were released after an undisclosed amount of money was paid to the bandits.
