Late Obadiah Mailafia Truly Loved Nigeria - President Buhari

A former deputy governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and renowned economist Obadiah Mailafia is dead.

It was gathered that the former CBN Deputy governor died on Sunday morning, aged 64 years.

Confirming his death, a family lawyer, Mr Yakubu Bawa, told Channels TV that Dr Mailafia died in the early hours of the day at his residence in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

According to Bawa who is the Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr. Mailafia’s death followed a brief illness.

Mailafia, who hailed from Randa, in the Christian-dominated Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State, taught economics at different institutions.

After leaving the CBN, he was known for pursuing a solution to the protracted killings in Southern Kaduna.

A critic of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, Mailafia was at one time invited by the Department of State Services to explain some of his on-air comments about deliberate violence across the country.

Dr Mailafia a renowned Public Affairs Analyst was the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2019 presidential election.
