Akeredolu Lectures Miyetti Allah On How To Stop Anti-open Grazing Law

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Friday asked the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, to approach the court if they are against the anti-open grazing law in the south.

Naija News reports that in a bid to put an end to clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the region, most southern governors agreed to enact the open-grazing law to prohibit the movement of cattles from on place to another.

The governors and most stakeholders have constantly called on herdsmen to embrace ranching as the world has since abandoned open grazing.

Angered by this moves, Miyetti Allah had approached the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the National Assembly to put a stop to this moves by southern governors.

The herdsmen umbrella body had even claimed that with the ban in place cows may sell for as high as two million naira.

Speaking to Channels Television, Akeredolu asked MACBAN to approach the court to stop southern states from banning open grazing.

He said: “Let me be very clear, the position of the southern governors on this is that we have resolved not to respond to MACBAN or whatever name they call themselves.

“We don’t want to dignify them with a response. We are a government over a people. We are a government over our respective states.

“The only thing that matters to us is that, if anybody wants to challenge our law, let them go to court, we will meet them.”
