One Killed As Bandits Invade Sokoto Village Days After Sending Notice Of Attack

Bandits killed one person and abducted nine others during an attack on Wababe village in the Dange Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Naija News reports that the attack which happened on Tuesday comes days after the bandits sent a threat message to the residents of border villages in the state on Saturday.

Recall that the notice written in Hausa language was found under a tree in Kwanar Kimba Village of Shuni District, Dange/Shuni LGA of the state.

In the notice, the bandits also boasted in the alleged notification that no force could stop them from carrying out their threat.

However, the bandits kept their promise and invaded the village for over two hours, leading many residents to flee into the nearby bushes.

Confirming the attack, Sokoto Police Command spokesman, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said the police had launched a manhunt for the bandits.

He said: “We got a report from the DPO (Divisional Police Officer) who said that security operatives in the local government mobilised immediately to engage the bandits.

“Unfortunately, on sensing our men going after them, the bandits started firing and in the process shot one person. They fled and abandoned their food items and patrol.”

Meanwhile, gunmen have reportedly killed a lawyer, Darlington Odume, popularly Omekagu, in Imo State.

It was gathered that the gunmen killed Odume at a supermarket at Amaifeke in Orlu, in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state.

Odume, a native of Umudara village in Amaifeke- Orlu, had his chamber in Orlu town.

A source told PUNCH that the late lawyer who was rushed to a hospital in the area but was rejected and referred to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu, died on the way to the teaching hospital.

“They stormed a supermarket at Umudara Amaifeke, Orlu and shot him on the chest and zoomed off,” the source said.

“He was rushed to a hospital in the area, but they rejected him, referring them to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu, but he died along the way.

“Omekagu was handling some of the cases of those arrested and believed to be innocent due to the violence in Orlu. His wife is a Police officer.

“The entire community has been thrown into mourning. His wife is a serving Police officer. This is very unfortunate.”
