No More Mercy As Zamfara Govt Declares War On Bandits

The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has declared that his administration is determined to go all out in the war against banditry in the state.

This is as he revealed that the bandits are now seeking to negotiate with the government after suffering heavy casualties from military bombardments but the phase of mercy has passed.

The Governor who spoke while addressing residents of the state in Gusau, the state capital on Saturday further appealed to the people to bear with the government on the stringent security measures deployed to combat criminals in the state.

Before States’ Collection Of VAT Does More Harm Than Good

The excitement which swept across parts of the country after Rivers State’s victory over the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) at the court of first instance regarding the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) is understandable. This is because the judgment is like a quantum leap towards fiscal federalism or restructuring which most Nigerians have been clamoring for in recent times.

Justice Stephen Dalyop Pam of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, while delivering a landmark judgment on August 9 in Suit No. FHC/ PH/CS/149/2020, filed by the Attorney General for Rivers State (plaintiff), against the FIRS (first defendant) and the Attorney General of the Federation (second defendant), had ruled that allowing the Federal Government, through the FIRS, to continue collecting VAT will be negating the spirit of the federal system of government being practiced.

The lawmaker, who made this revelation while addressing journalists in Yola at the weekend, regretted that due to poor budgetary implementation, the Reps hardly get more than N80m of the allocated N100m.

Some friends and colleagues of Major Christopher Datong have taken it upon themselves to secretly raise ransom to rescue him from bandit terrorists.

It will be recalled that Major Christopher Datong was identified as the officer kidnapped by the terrorists who struck during the attack on NDA with two other officers losing their lives.

The kidnappers later reportedly contacted the military authorities and demanded a ransom of N200m be paid for his release but no official update has been given since then.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is not looking for an Igbo president in 2023.

The Imo state governor dismissed reports that the ruling party is working to zone the 2023 presidential election ticket to the southeast zone.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Friday, Uzodinma disclosed that the APC is locking for a president that would be for all Nigerians.

Don’t Sack Secondus Now – David Mark, Senator Abaribe, Others Warn PDP

The David Mark-led Reconciliation Committee set up by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kicked against the sacking of its Chairman, Uche Secondus.

The committee warned that sacking the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party headed by Secondus before the expiration of its tenure may plunge the opposition party into many legal battles.

It was gathered that the Mark committee recommended that the new committee that would be elected at the party’s convention should only resume duties after the expiration of the present NWC’s tenure in December 9.

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has received some high-ranking members of the ruling party in London.

Some of the APC members that visited Tinubu on Friday include the lawmaker representing the Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, and lawmaker representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Senator Adeola Solomon.

Naija News had reported that Gumi alongside the former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, had visited the town last week, calling on Yoruba Nation agitators to shelve their agitation for secession.

The town is the adopted home of the embattled jailed Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

The Vice-Chairman, Dan Orbih made this known during an interview on Friday where he encouraged South-South Governors to give backing to the recent amendments to the VAT law by Rivers State, and later Lagos State, where the duty rightly belongs.
