A police officer known as Sergeant Basharu Alhassan has been killed by his colleague, Inspector Ya’u Yakubu. The crime happened at Warawa Divisional Police Headquarters in Kano.

 

An altercation had happened between the two officers when Ya’u had angrily brought out his gun and shot at Alhassan.

The spokesperson of the Kano state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said that the victim was pronounced dead after he was taken to Wudii General Hospital.

He said: “There was a misunderstanding between the two officers and as a result, the Inspector fired a shot at the Sergeant.

“On our preliminary investigations, the said Inspector said he didn’t even know how he shot his colleague and he could remember that the deceased was laughing at him. So he was out of his sense and committed this act.”

The state commissioner of police, CP Sama’ila Dikko has ordered a mental evaluation of the killer. He also demanded that the case be transferred to the state CID homicide to guarantee a  proper investigation.
